Humid Organ

(work in progress)

Humid Organ is an atmosphere-sensitive musical instrument and performance.

Humid Organ invites water vapour into minimal electronic organ circuits, letting condensation and evaporation conduct sweet swelling (synthesised) organ tones. Featuring the humble “anytime” humidity-sensitive resistor: just a tiny gap between conductive traces. In the space in-between, condensation forms tiny resistive waterways, a moist mix of voices that completes the sounding circuit.

Sensitive to subtle changes in temperature, humidity, and air movement, Humid Organ offers a playful way of tuning into the microclimate and making music with tiny clouds (i.e. warm breath playing clusters of tones which fade away with the wind, or situated music for a foggy morning…)

The instrument is open-source and evolving, for more information see http://taat.live/agora/organ?tab=humid+organ

Presented at Acousminium Festival Graz and Transeuropa Festival Athens, and as part of a workshop ‘Humble Humistors’ at Circuit Control Dresden.
